About the Annual Reports

What are the Annual Reports?

The Annual Reports collection consists of reports produced by Federal agencies and other entities of the U.S. Government to document performance, financial, and program activities of the preceding year. Requirements for annual reports have varied over time, but reports may include detailed project metrics, audited financial statements, and/or program outcomes.

The Annual Reports are organized by the federal agency or governmental entity that issued the report.

What is available?

• The Annual Reports collection is a derived collection (comprised of related publications originating from other existing GovInfo collections and grouped together based on metadata). These include:
• Congressionally Mandated Reports (CMR)
• Government Publications (GOVPUB)
• U.S. Congressional Serial Set (SERIALSET)
• The collection includes both historical and current annual reports issued by Federal agencies and organizations. Publications may originate from executive, legislative, or judicial branch entities. The Annual Reports collection is not a comprehensive index of all Federal annual reports. Content availability depends on what has been published to GovInfo, identified through collection metadata, and incorporated into the Annual Reports collection.
• Annual Reports may continue to expand as additional content is identified, digitized, and processed.

Searching Annual Reports

You can find and search the Annual Reports by:

• Using Basic Search for keyword and metadata fielded searches,
• Using Advanced Search; fields specific to the Annual Reports collection will display after selecting Annual Reports in the Refine by Collection column.
• Refining search results by clicking on the basic navigators under the Refine Your Search panel on the left side of the page (the sections under Refine Your Search correspond to the metadata available for the documents), and
• Browsing the Annual Reports browse page.

Search Examples

Search by Originating Agency; For example, reports issued by the Department of Agriculture

• Using Basic Search, enter: originatingagency:Agriculture Department
• Using Advanced Search, check Annual Reports under Refine by Collection, then select Originating Agency in the Search In dropdown. In the text box enter Agriculture Department and search.

Search by Date; For example, documents from January 20, 2004.

• Using Basic Search, enter collection:annualrep and publishdate:2004-01-20
• Using Advanced Search, under Date Range select Date is from the first box and enter or select 01/20/2004 in the next box, then select Annual Reports under Refine by Collection.

Search by SuDoc class number; For example, reports with the SuDoc Class stem “GP 1.1:”

• Using Basic Search, enter sudocclass:"GP 1.1:"
• Using Advanced Search, check Annual Reports under Refine by Collection, then select Sudoc Class Number in the Search in dropdown. In the textbox enter “GP 1.1:” and search.
• A SuDoc classification containing ".1:" is considered part of the Annual Reports collection

Annual Reports Metadata Fields and Values

Metadata fields and values can be used to increase the relevancy of your searches. The metadata fields available for Annual Reports are listed in the table below. Metadata fields and values are used throughout GovInfo for
