- Abstract
- This publication provides a comprehensive overview of work done across all parts of the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). Each issue contains short publications, summaries, and descriptions that cover all NCES publications and data products released in a 3-month period. Each issue also contains a message from the NCES on a timely subject and a featured topic with invited commentary. The articles in the first section, "Featured Topic: Schools and Staffing Survey," are: (1) "Schools and Staffing Survey, 1999-2000: Overview of the Data for'Public, Private, Public Charter, and Bureau of Indian Affairs Elementary and Secondary Schools" (Kerry J. Gruber, Susan D. Wiley, Stephen P. Broughman, Gregory A. Strizek, and Marisa Burian-Fitzgerald); (2) "Qualifications of the Public School Teacher Workforce: Prevalence of Out-of-Field Teaching 1987-88 to 1999-2000" (Marilyn McMillen Seastrom, Kerry J.
