This booklet, in question-and-answerformat, is intended to ~ guide service providers in colleges and universities in supplying required special services to students who are hard of nearing. Introductory material explains the mission and objectives cjf PEPNet, which is to provide the coordination and collaboration in technical assistance to postsecondary educational institutions to improve access and accommodation for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. Some of the issues addressed by the 35 questions include: implementing assistive technology in the classroom, assistive technology and the Internet, current hearing aids, service coordination at the institutional level, captioning services, educator training, requirements of "equal access accommodation," responsibility for paying for an interpreter, use of volunteer note takers, cochlear implants, students who are both blind and hard of hearing, students who have difficulty speaking, source of qualified individuals in captioning techniques, socialization of deaf and hearing students, sign language, and course substitutions for foreign languages.
