Questions have also been raised about the ability of the Defense Department's (DOD) readiness-reporting system to provide a comprehensive assessment of overall readiness. In an October 1994 report (GAO/NSIAD-95-29), GAO examined whether current indicators of readiness adequately reflected the many complex components that contributed to overall military readiness and whether readiness indicators existed that could predict positive or negative changes in readiness.
