The District of Columbia is studying potential benefits of privatizing government services and reinventing its government operations. Other city and state governments, facing fiscal pressures, used privatization to help reinvent government, save money, and improve service delivery. Privatization can take various forms, such as divestiture, contracting out, vouchers, and public-private partnerships.
