The FMCSA announces it has received a proposal to initiate a pilot program to allow carefully selected, screened, trained and monitored individuals between the ages of 18 and 21 to work in truck driver jobs in interstate commerce. The FMCSA received the proposal from the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) for approval of a pilot program that would include providing each participant with an exemption under 49 CFR part 381. The proposal is available in the public docket. Under current regulations, a driver must be at least 21 years of age to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV). We request comments on TCA's proposed pilot program as part of our review process.
