This amendment revises the structural loads design requirements of the Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) for transport category airplanes by incorporating changes developed in cooperation with the Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA) of Europe and the Aviation Rulemaking Advisory Committee (ARAC). This action makes some of the requirements more rational and eliminates differences between current U.S. and European requirements that impose unnecessary costs on airplane manufacturers. These changes are intended to achieve common airworthiness standards and language between the requirements of the U.S. regulations and the Joint Aviation Requirements (JAR) of Europe while maintaining at least the level of safety provided by the current regulations and industry practices.
