Statement by Press Secretary Fitzwater on the President's Meeting With 
King Hussein of Jordan
December 16, 1992

    The President today met with King Hussein of Jordan in connection 
with the King's private visit to the U.S. for a medical checkup. The two 
leaders had a discussion of the situation in the Gulf, especially the 
importance of maintaining U.N. sanctions against Iraq, and the Middle 
East peace process. The President also welcomed Jordan's decision to 
commit forces to both the peacemaking and peacekeeping phases in 
Somalia.
