He would succeed Charles E. M. Kolb. Currently Dr. Manno serves as Acting Assistant Secretary for Policy and Planning at the U.S. Department of Education. Prior to this, Dr. Manno served at the Department of Education in the Office of Educational Research and Improvement as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy and Planning; Acting Assistant Secretary and Chief of Staff; and as Director of Planning. Dr. Manno graduated from the University of Dayton (B.A., 1970; M.A., 1972) and Boston College (Ph.D., 1975). He was born May 2, 1947, in Cleveland, OH. He is married and resides in Washington, DC.
