Statement by Press Secretary Fitzwater on the President's Meeting With 
President Mircea Snegur of Moldova

February 18, 1992
    The President and Moldovan President Mircea Snegur met for 20 
minutes today in the Oval Office. It was the first meeting between the 
two leaders. The President reiterated U.S. recognition of Moldovan 
independence and the two Presidents agreed that the U.S. and Moldova 
will establish diplomatic relations and exchange Ambassadors in the near 
future. The President also expressed our commitment to continue U.S. 
humanitarian and technical assistance to Moldova.
