Nomination of Shirley D. Peterson To Be Commissioner of Internal Revenue

    The President today announced his intention to nominate Shirley D. 
Peterson, of Maryland, to be Commissioner of Internal Revenue, 
Department of the Treasury. She would succeed Fred T. Goldberg, Jr.
    Currently Ms. Peterson serves as Assistant Attorney General for the 
Tax Division at the Department of Justice. From 1969 to 1989, she served 
as a partner with the law firm of Steptoe & Johnson in Washington, DC.
    Ms. Peterson graduated from Bryn Mawr College (A.B., 1963) and New 
York University School of Law (LL.B., 1967). She was born September 3, 
1941, in Holly, CO. Ms. Peterson is married, has two children, and 
resides in Bethesda, MD.
