Appointment of Edward O. Vetter as a Member of the Competitiveness 
Policy Council
January 30, 1991

    The President today announced his intention to appoint Edward O.
Vetter, of Texas, to be a member of the Competitiveness Policy Council 
for a term of 2 years. This is a new position.
    Since 1978 Mr. Vetter has served as president of Edward O. Vetter 
and Associates, and serves as a director of the Texas Department of 
Commerce in Dallas, TX. In addition, Mr. Vetter served as Under 
Secretary of Commerce at the Department of Commerce in Washington, DC, 
1976-1977.
    Mr. Vetter graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology 
(B.S., 1942). He was born October 20, 1920, in Rochester, NY. Mr. Vetter 
served in the U.S. Army, 1942-1946. Mr. Vetter is married, has three 
children, and resides in Dallas, TX.
