Statement by Press Secretary Fitzwater on the President's Conversation 
With United Nations Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar Concerning 
the Persian Gulf Crisis
January 10, 1991

    The President spoke with U.N. Secretary-General Perez de Cuellar
late this afternoon to discuss the Secretary-General's upcoming visit to 
Baghdad. The President wished him well and stated that he was pleased 
that the Secretary-General is undertaking this mission for peace. The 
President noted that the United Nations has played a key role in 
building and maintaining the international coalition against the Iraqi 
aggression. The discussion centered on the U.N. resolutions dealing with 
the Iraqi aggression against Kuwait and in securing Iraq's compliance 
with them.
