<section id="d50888e88" identifier="/us/pl/117/330/s1" style="-uslm-lc:I658146"><num class="bold" value="1">SECTION 1. </num><sidenote><p class="leftAlign firstIndent0 fontsize8" id="x0de7fdda-e815-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" style="-uslm-lc:I658180"><ref href="/us/usc/t34/s10101">34 USC 10101 note</ref>.</p></sidenote><heading>SHORT TITLE.</heading><content style="-uslm-lc:I658120">  This Act may be cited as the “<shortTitle role="act">Sami’s Law</shortTitle>”.</content></section>
<section id="d50888e103" identifier="/us/pl/117/330/s2" style="-uslm-lc:I658141"><num class="fontsize12" value="2">SEC. 2. </num><heading>GAO STUDY ON INCIDENCE OF FATAL AND NON-FATAL PHYSICAL AND SEXUAL ASSAULT OF PASSENGERS, TNC DRIVERS, AND DRIVERS OF OTHER FOR-HIRE VEHICLES.</heading><subsection class="firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="y0de84bfb-e815-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" identifier="/us/pl/117/330/s2/a" style="-uslm-lc:I658120"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="a">(a) </num><sidenote><p class="leftAlign firstIndent0 fontsize8" id="x0de84bfc-e815-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" style="-uslm-lc:I658180"><ref href="/us/usc/t34/s41313">34 USC 41313</ref>.</p></sidenote><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">GAO Report</inline>.—</heading><chapeau>Not later than 1 year after the date of enactment of this Act, and every 2 years thereafter, the Comptroller General of the United States shall submit to Congress a report that includes the results of a study regarding—</chapeau><paragraph class="fontsize10" id="y0de84bfd-e815-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" identifier="/us/pl/117/330/s2/a/1" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="1">(1) </num><sidenote><p class="leftAlign firstIndent0 fontsize8" id="x0de84bfe-e815-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" style="-uslm-lc:I658180">Time period.</p></sidenote><chapeau>the incidence of fatal and non-fatal physical assault and sexual assault perpetrated in the preceding 2 calendar years (starting with calendar years 2019 and 2020 for the first study)—</chapeau><subparagraph class="fontsize10" id="y0de84bff-e815-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" identifier="/us/pl/117/330/s2/a/1/A" style="-uslm-lc:I658124"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="A">(A) </num><content>against TNC drivers and drivers of other for-hire vehicles (including taxicabs) by passengers and riders of for-hire vehicles; and</content></subparagraph>
<subparagraph class="fontsize10" id="y0de84c00-e815-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" identifier="/us/pl/117/330/s2/a/1/B" style="-uslm-lc:I658124"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="B">(B) </num><content>against passengers and riders by other passengers and TNC drivers or drivers of other for-hire vehicles (including taxicabs), including the incidences that are committed by individuals who are not TNC drivers or drivers of other for-hire vehicles but who pose as TNC drivers or drivers of other for-hire vehicles;</content></subparagraph>
</paragraph>
<paragraph class="fontsize10" id="y0de84c01-e815-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" identifier="/us/pl/117/330/s2/a/2" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="2">(2) </num><content>the nature and specifics of any background checks conducted on prospective TNC drivers and drivers of other for-hire vehicles (including taxicabs), including any State and local laws requiring those background checks; and</content></paragraph>
<paragraph class="fontsize10" id="y0de84c02-e815-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" identifier="/us/pl/117/330/s2/a/3" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="3">(3) </num><content>the safety steps taken by transportation network companies and other for-hire vehicle services (including taxicab companies) related to rider and driver safety.<page identifier="/us/stat/136/6115">136 STAT. 6115</page></content></paragraph>
</subsection>
<subsection class="firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="y0de84c03-e815-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" identifier="/us/pl/117/330/s2/b" role="definitions" style="-uslm-lc:I658120"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="b">(b) </num><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">Sexual Assault Defined</inline>.—</heading><content>In this section, the term “<term>sexual assault</term>” means the occurrence of an act that constitutes any nonconsensual sexual act proscribed by Federal, Tribal, or State law, including when the victim lacks capacity to consent.</content></subsection>
