Impending programs of Forest Service and Reconstruction Finance Corporation 7 17608 MONTHLY REPORT ON IMPENDING PROGRAMS OF LAND DRAINAGE AND WATER STORAGE. No. 25 - March 1938. The programs of work listed, herein have "been reported, to the National Resources Committee in accordance with the President’s memorandum of Feb ruary 1, 1936. Listing of a program indicates that the program is receiving serious consideration by the sponsoring agency and may be undertaken within two years. It does not indicate that funds are available to begin work or that the sponsoring agency is committed to the program. Programs will be listed once only. Inquiries concerning the programs listed should be made directly to the field or Washington offices of the sponsoring agencies. The Federal and state agencies with which the respective programs have been checked are indicated by key letters as follows! A-Bureau of Agricultural Engineering B-Bureau of Biological Survey C-Bureau of Entomology and Plant Quarantine D-Bureau of Fisheries E-r«Corps of Engineers F—State Department of Health G-State Engineer H-State Fish and Game Commission I-U.S. Public Health Service J-Geological Survey K-Soil Conservation Service L-Bureau of Reclamation M-California Debris Commission N-Federal Power Commission O-State Department of Public Works P-State Department of Agriculture 17608 I. Authorized programs of the Works Progress Administration This is a partial list of programs which have received Presidential approval» and are being undertaken at the discretion of the state Works Progress administrators. It is probable that not more than one-quarter of all programs listed will reach the construction stage during the fiscal year 1938. The Washington office of WPA has no complete record of those projects which actually have been started. Inquiries concerning specific programs should be addressed to the Chief Engineer of the Works Progress Administration, Washington, who will secure the desired information from the appropriate state administrator. It has not been practicable to show the purpose of all programs, or the agencies with which they have been checked* The programs listed in this number include all malaria—control, wild life conservation, water conservation, flood-control, irrigation, hydroelectric and navigation programs authorized by the Works Progress Administration prior to February 1, 1938, and not included in previous reports. The greater number of malaria-control programs involve ditching operations, and most of the fish and game protection programs involve dam construction* ‘ 2 WHO - LD&WS #25 - March 1, 1938 17608 California Colorado Delaware Illinois Kansas Information f urni shed, hy Works Progress Administ rat ion County Description of Program Purpose Sponsoring Agency California San Joaquin T chama River hank improvement near Manteca Clear creeks of dohris -county-wide $5,180 21,569 Flood control Flood control Reclamation District 2064 Tehama County Colorado Crowley Delta Laying of drain tile near Olney Springs Hiprapping river hank near Delta 6,253 2,360 Drainage Flood control Olney Springs Drainage District Delta County Delaware Kent Improvement of water system at Dover 7,952 Water diversion and storage City of Dover Illinois Cass Improvement of levees at Beardstown 4,677 Flood control Beardstown Sanitary District Kansas Kingman Remove dehris from rivers near Kingman 3,896 Flood control Kingman County 3 17608 WRC - LWS #25 - March 1, 1938 Lias sachus et t s Michigan Minnesota Missouri Montana County Description of Program Purpose Sponsoring Agency Mas s achus et t s Berkshire Essex Hampden it Plymouth Improvement of U.S. Fish Hatchery at Hartsville $8.121 Watershed improvement at Lynn 25,713 Improvement of water supply at Chicopee 24,304 Improvement of city water works at Holyoke 46,087 Improvement of town water supply 4,484 Fish Water and ; Water and !
