Words and figures enclosed in brackets [] are given for information, but do not appear on the title pages of the publications cataloged. When place and printer are not given, it is to be understood that the publication is printed at the United States Government Printing Office, Washington, D. C. When size is not given octavo is to be understood. Size of maps is measured from outer edge of border, excluding margin. The date, including day, month, and year, given with Senate and House documents and reports are the dates on which they were ordered to be printed. Usually the printing promptly follows the ordering, but various causes sometimes make delays.
The L. C. card number appended to some of the entries is for those libraries ordering printed cards from the Library of Congress. The number at the extreme right of an entry indicates the classification of the publication in the Office of the Superintendent of Documents.
The Superintendent of Documents, Washington, D. C., is authorized by law to sell copies of Government publications and to allow a discount of 25 percent to book dealers and quantity purchasers on condition that the purchasers will adhere to the public sales price set by the Superintendent of Documents and that publications shall not be overprinted with any advertising matter.
Publications cannot be supplied free to individuals nor forwarded in advance of payment.
The accumulation of publications in this Office amounts to several millions, of which over five million are assorted, forming the sales stock. Many rare books are included, but under the law all must be sold regardless of their age or scarcity. Many of the books have been in stock some time, and are apt to be shopworn. In filling orders the best copy available is sent.
A general price list of public documents is not available, but numerous lists have been prepared on special subjects and any of these will be furnished free, on application, if the person interested will state the subject or subjects concerning which information is desired. It will also be noted that current publications which are for sale are listed in this catalog.
In addition to the Price lists, the Documents Office issues a Weekly List of Selected United States Government Publications for sale by the Superintendent of Documents. Each list is arranged alphabetically by subjects, with annotations and prices, and may be obtained free upon application to the Superintendent of Documents.
Publications entered in this catalog that are for sale by the Superintendent of Documents are indicated by a star (*) preceding the price. A dagger (†) indicates that application should be made to the department, bureau, or division issuing the document. A double dagger (‡) indicates that the document is printed for official use. Whenever additional information concerning the method of procuring a document seems necessary, it will be found wider the name of the bureau by which it was published.
In ordering a publication from the Superintendent of Documents, give (if known) the name of the publishing department, bureau, or division, and the title, together with the classification number which is added to the entry at the extreme right; order the congressional documents and reports by the title, together with the document or report number and the Congress and session, e. g., H. doc. 78, 74-1.
Do not use the L. C. card number in ordering a publication.
Remittances for the documents marked with a star (*) should be made to the Superintendent of Documents, Washington, D. C., by coupons, postal money order, express order, or check. Currency may be sent at sender's risk. Foreign remittances should be made either by international money order or draft on an American bank.
Postage stamps, foreign money, defaced or smooth coins, will not be accepted.
For the convenience of the general public, coupons that are good until used in exchange for Government publications sold by the Superintendent of Documents may be purchased from his Office in sets of 20 for $1. Address order to Superintendent of Documents, Government Printing Office, Washington, D. C.
No charge is made for postage on documents forwarded to points in United States, Alaska, Guam, Hawaii, Philippine Islands, Puerto Rico, Samoa, or to Canada, Cuba, or Mexico. To other countries the regular rate of postage is charged, and remittances must cover such postage. In computing foreign postage, add one-third of the price of the publication.
The number given at the extreme right of each entry (except for congressional documents and reports) is the classification number by which the publication is arranged in the Library and in the sales stock of the Office of the Superintendent of Documents. It can be used as a classification number by such libraries as are using, for the departmental publications, the arrangement of public documents advocated in the Checklist of United States Public Documents, 1789-1909. In using this number as a classification number in a library, it should be noted that the shilling mark (/) is used to separate what would ordinarily be a superior number or letter (the numbers or letters immediately following the line) from the main classification number, it not being practicable to print these numbers and letters as superiors in the Monthly Catalog, e. g., the number A 1.23/a:So 96/4 listed in the Monthly Catalog would be A 1.23 a:So 96 4 in a library.
Numbers to be used in ordering the printed catalog cards of the Library of Congress are appended to entries for the more important publications. These are given at the left, with "L. C. card" prefixed. Do not confuse with the Documents Office classification number given at the right. Orders for these cards, remittances in payment for them, and requests for information about them should be addressed to the Librarian of Congress, not to the Superintendent of Documents.
The Monthly Catalog is sent to public libraries free on application. Subscription price to individuals, $1.00 a year, including index; foreign subscription $1.60 a year. Back numbers cannot be supplied. Notify the Superintendent of Documents of any change of address.
An Index to the Monthly Catalog will be issued at the end of the calendar year. This will contain index entries for all the numbers issued from January to December, and can be bound with the numbers as an index to the volume. Persons desiring to bind the catalog at the end of the year should be careful to retain the numbers received monthly, as duplicate copies cannot be supplied.
Under the provisions of Public Act No. 1, Seventy-fourth Congress, approved January 1, 1935, the Reconstruction Finance Corporation is authorized to continue to perform its functions until February 1, 1937, or such earlier date as the President may fix by proclamation, and the liquidation and winding up of its affairs as provided for by section 13 of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation Act, as amended, are postponed during the period that the functions of the Corporation are continued pursuant to the act of January 1, 1935.
The Bureau of Agricultural Economics announces the organization of a Division of Marketing Research as an aid to their new program of research on problems of marketing agricultural products.
The Federal Emergency Relief Administration has recently started the publication of two periodicals entitled The Project and Concerning Workers' Education. The Project is an illustrated monthly bulletin issued in conjunction with the Federal Surplus Relief Corporation, and is printed by the Citizens' Service Exchange, Richmond, Va. Concerning Workers' Education appears at somewhat irregular intervals and is not printed at the Government Printing Office, being reproduced by a process other than printing, by an outside agency. Application for both periodicals should be made to the Federal Emergency Relief Administration, Washington, D. C.
The Register of Commissioned and Warrant Officers of Navy and Marine Corps, formerly issued January 1st of each year, will hereafter be issued as of July 1st, according to an announcement by the Navy Department.
A new edition of the Code of Laws of United States is now in press and will probably be available about May 1st. The new edition will incorporate the additions and changes that would have appeared in Supplement 8, which will not be issued.

NOTE.—The National Resources Board was established by the President through Executive order 6777 of June 30, 1934. The functions of the board are to prepare and present to the President a program and plan of procedure dealing with the physical, social, governmental, and economic aspects of public policies for the development and use or land, water, and other national resources, etc.
By the same Executive order, the National Planning Board of the Federal Emergency Administration cf Public Works was abolished, and all of its powers, duties, etc., transferred to the National Resources Board, but the final report of the National Planning Board, covering the period during which it was in existence, will be found under the Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works, p. 152.

The first part dealing with the general facts regarding the health of the Navy is published in the Annual report of the Secretary of Navy, 1934. NOTE.—A list of post route maps, prepared primarily for the postal service but available to the public, is given below. New editions are published about once a year. Each of these maps shows all post offices within the State and indicates how each is supplied with mail. County boundaries are shown and each county is named, but only the principal drainage features are delineated. These maps show no highways and only such railroads as carry mail. The maps listed at 60 cents each are single-sheet maps; those priced at $1.20 are 2-sheet maps.
Rural delivery routes, not indicated on the post route maps, are shown in detail on county or local center maps which, with a few exceptions, are drawn to the scale of 1:62,500 or 1:63.360 (1 mile to the inch). Maps of more than 1,470 counties in the United States have been prepared by the Post Office Department and blue-line prints, made from the latest available negatives, are sold for 50 cents per copy. Each county map shows, in addition to the roads traveled by rural carriers, all post offices within the county at the time the negative was made and all other roads, houses, schools, and churches known at the time the map was originally drawn, together with an outline of the drainage.
