The Director of National Intelligence (DNI) is a Cabinet-level post established by section 1011 of the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 (50 U.S.C. 403). The DNI is responsible for overseeing and coordinating elements of the Intelligence Community and is the principal intelligence adviser to the President. The DNI's responsibilities are: --coordinating collection, processing, analysis, and dissemination of intelligence information required by the President, the National Security Council, the Secretaries of State and Defense, and other executive branch officials in performing their duties and responsibilities; --ensuring the sharing of intelligence information within the Intelligence Community; --establishing personnel policies and programs applicable to the Intelligence Community; and --determining the annual National Intelligence Program budget and directing the expenditure of those funds.
