Telecommunications: Financial Information on 16 Telephone and Cable
Companies (Fact Sheet, 07/08/94, GAO/RCED/AIMD-94-221FS).
GAO was asked to provide financial information on the seven Regional
Bell Operating Companies, including Ameritech, Bell Atlantic, BellSouth,
NYNEX, Pacific Telesis, Southwestern Bell, and US WEST; GTE (the largest
independent telecommunications company); AT&T; MCI; Sprint; and the
operators of the five publicly owned multiple-system cable television
companies with the largest number of subscribers: Tele-Communications,
Inc., Time-Warner, Comcast Corporation, Cablevision Systems Corporation,
and Jones Intercable, Inc. This fact sheet provides information for all
16 companies on total operating revenues, cash flow from operations, and
profitability. In addition, for the Bell Operating Companies and GTE,
the report provides more detailed financial information on the uses of
cash flow from operations, including the extent to which capital
expenditures are made inside and outside of the companies' primary line
of business.
