Americans With Disabilities Act: Effects of the Law on Access to Goods
and Services (Letter Report, 06/21/94, GAO/PEMD-94-14D).
This report, available on diskette, looks at the extent to which the
Americans With Disabilities Act has improved the access for persons with
disabilities to goods and services provided by businesses and state and
local governments. Overall, GAO found steady improvement in both
accessibility and awareness during the initial 15 months that the act
was in effect. However, enough areas of concern remain to suggest a need
for continuing educational outreach and technical assistance to business
and government agencies covered by the act, as well as continued
monitoring by the Congress.
