D.C. Disability Retirement Rate (Letter Report, 03/31/95,
GAO/GGD-95-133).
The federal government makes annual payments to the District of Columbia
retirement fund for police officers and firefighters. To encourage the
District government to control disability retirement costs, these
payments must be reduced when the disability retirement rates exceeds a
certain limit. GAO concludes that no reduction is required in the
fiscal year 1996 payment to the fund.
