Budget Function Classification: Agency Spending by Subfunction and Object
Category, Fiscal Year 1994 (Fact Sheet, 05/10/95, GAO/AIMD-95-116FS).
This fact sheet is the third in a series of GAO reports examining the
functions performed by federal agencies. GAO identifies those functions
that are uniquely associated with each agency and those performed by two
or more agencies. In particular, this fact sheet provides an
"accounting of expenditures" so that both administrative and
mission-oriented operations are identified. GAO describes fiscal year
1994 obligations by subdepartment and subfunction and by focusing on
objects of expenditure within each subfunction. This enables GAO to
more precisely describe federal activities by characterizing obligations
according to the nature of the service or the article procured.
