Petition for Exemption

    Docket No.: FAA-2024-2497.
    Petitioner: Pyka Inc.
Section(s) of 14 CFR Affected: Sec. Sec. 61.3(a)(1)(i),
61.3(c)(1), 61.23(a)(2), 91.119(c), 91.121, 91.151(a),291.403(b),
91.405(a), 91.407(a)(1), 91.417(a), and 91.417(b).
Description of Relief Sought: Pyka Inc. (Pyka) seeks to amend their
exemption, Exemption No. 23028, which allows Pyka to operate the Pyka
Pelican and Pyka Pelican Cargo unmanned aircraft system (UAS), weighing
55 pounds (lbs.) or greater, for the purposes described in the
associated Special Airworthiness Certificate--Experimental Category
(SAC-EC). Pyka's amendment, if granted, would allow for night
operations, beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations in scenarios
where the unmanned aircraft system (UAS) is operated within the visual
line of sight (VLOS) of a visual observer (VO), and remove the
requirement that the pilot in command (PIC) pass a 14 CFR part 61
airman knowledge test.
