Program-Specific Guidance About Possession Licenses for
Production of Radioactive Material Using an Accelerator
AGENCY: Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
ACTION: Draft NUREG; extension of comment period.

SUMMARY: On December 16, 2016, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission
(NRC) solicited comments on draft NUREG-1556, Volume 21, Revision 1,
``Consolidated Guidance About Materials Licenses: Program-Specific
Guidance About Possession Licenses for Production of Radioactive
Material Using an Accelerator.'' The public comment period was
originally scheduled to close on January 20, 2017. The NRC has decided
to extend the public comment period to allow more time for members of
the public to develop and submit their comments.
DATES: The due date of comments requested in the document published on
December 16, 2016 (81 FR 91206) is extended. Comments should be filed
no later than February 24, 2017. Comments received after this date will
be considered if it is practical to do so, but the NRC is able to
ensure consideration only for comments received on or before this date.

II. Discussion
On December 16, 2016, the NRC solicited comments on draft NUREG-
1556, Volume 21, Revision 1, ``Consolidated Guidance About Materials
Licenses: Program-Specific Guidance About Possession Licenses for
Production of Radioactive Material Using an Accelerator.''
The purpose of the document published on December 16, 2016 (81 FR
91206) was to provide the public an opportunity to review and comment
on draft NUREG-1556, Volume 21, Revision 1. This NUREG provides
guidance both to current holders of possession licenses for radioactive
material produced in an accelerator and to persons preparing
applications for such licenses. The NUREG also provides the NRC
criteria for evaluating a license application.
The public comment period was originally scheduled to close on
January 20, 2017. The NRC has decided to extend the public comment
period on this document until February 24, 2016, to allow more time for
members of the public to submit their comments.
