Implementation of Regulatory Guide 1.221 on Design-Basis 
Hurricane and Hurricane Missiles

AGENCY: Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

ACTION: Proposed interim staff guidance; solicitation of public 
comment.

SUMMARY: The U.S Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the Commission) 
staff is soliciting public comment on its proposed Interim Staff 
Guidance (ISG) DC/COL-ISG-024, ``Implementation of Regulatory Guide 
1.221 on Design-Basis Hurricane and Hurricane Missiles.'' The purpose 
of this ISG is to supplement the guidance regarding the application of 
Regulatory Guide 1.221, ``Design-Basis Hurricane and Hurricane Missiles 
for Nuclear Power Plants.''

DATES: Submit comments by November 21, 2012. Comments received after 
this date will be considered, if it is practical to do so, but the 
Commission is able to ensure consideration only for comments received 
on or before this date.

    The NRC staff issues DC/COL-ISGs to facilitate timely 
implementation of current staff guidance and to facilitate activities 
associated with review of applications for early site permits, design 
certifications, and combined licenses by the Office of New Reactors. 
The NRC staff intends to incorporate the final approved DC/COL-ISG-024 
into the next revision of the Standard Review Plan and related guidance 
documents.
