Description: The National Transportation Safety Board is currently conducting a study examining the oversight practices of certificated air carriers who use contract repair facilities for aircraft maintenance. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) inspects air carrier maintenance operations and also certifies maintenance repair facilities that provide contract work. This study will look at the oversight practices used by both the air carriers and the FAA. In conjunction with the study, the National Transportation Safety Board is seeking clearance to obtain data from air carriers to identify their oversight practices. Dated: November 18, 1999.
