Announcing the Seventeenth Meeting of the Motor Vehicle Safety 
Research Advisory Committee

AGENCY: National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), DOT.

ACTION: Meeting announcement.

SUMMARY: This notice announces the seventeenth meeting of the Motor 
Vehicle Safety Research Advisory Committee (MVSRAC) and a tentative 
agenda. The Committee was established in accordance with the provisions 
of the Federal Advisory Committee Act to obtain independent advice on 
motor vehicle safety research. Discussions at this meeting will include 
specific topics in NHTSA's Vehicle Safety and Human-Centered Research 
Programs.

DATE AND TIME: The meeting is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 
26, 1999.

ADDRESSES: The meeting will be held in Room 6244-48 of the U.S. 
Department of Transportation Building, which is located at 400 Seventh 
Street, SW, Washington, DC.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: In May l987, the Motor Vehicle Safety 
Research Advisory Committee was established. The purpose of the 
Committee is to provide an independent source of ideas for motor 
vehicle safety research. The MVSRAC will provide information, advice 
and recommendations to NHTSA on matters relating to motor vehicle 
safety research, and provide a forum for the development, 
consideration, and communication of motor vehicle safety research, as 
set forth in the MVSRAC Charter.
    The meeting agenda will include progress reports from the MVSRAC 
working groups on Airbags, Biomechanics, Vehicle Aggressivity and 
Compatibility, Event Data Recorder, and Crash Avoidance Research.
    The meeting is open to the public; but, attendance may be limited 
due to space availability. Participation by the public will be 
determined by the Committee Chairperson.
    The summary minutes of the meeting and copies of materials handed 
out at the meeting will be available for public inspection in the DOT 
Docket in Washington, DC, within 3 weeks after the meeting. Copies of 
this material will then be available at ten cents a page upon request 
to DOT Docket, Room PL-401, 400 Seventh Street, SW, Washington, DC 
20590. The DOT Docket is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The 
summary minutes and handouts will also be available on NHTSA's Web site 
at Announcements/Public Meetings/at URL http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/nhtsa/
announce/meetings/.
