SUMMARY: Notice is hereby given that Dr. Robin Baird, Department of

has requested an amendment to Permit No. 926.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: The subject amendment is requested under the 
authority of the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972, as amended (16 
U.S.C. 1361 et seq.), and the Regulations Governing the Taking and 
Importing of Marine Mammals (50 CFR part 216).
    The Permit Holder is currently authorized to: (1) radio tag via 
suction cup attachment up to 25 killer whales (Orcinus orca) and up to 
100 Dall's porpoise (Phocoenoides dalli) annually in waters off 
Washington State, over a five year period; and (2) harass up to 300 
killer whales and 200 Dall's porpoise annually during the conduct of 
the tagging activities. The purpose of the research is to study the 
behavior and ecology of these species. The Holder is now requesting 
that the Permit be amended to expand the geographic coverage of the 
research to include the waters of southeast Alaska, Oregon, and 
California.
    Concurrent with the publication of this notice in the Federal 
Register, NMFS is forwarding copies of this application to the Marine 
Mammal Commission and its Committee of Scientific Advisors.
