DEPARTMENT OF LABOR
Employment and Training Administration
[NAFTA-01092]
Lucent Technologies, Incorporated, Berg Electronics, Inc., Lee's
Summit, Missouri; Amended Certification Regarding Eligibility To Apply
for NAFTA-Transitional Adjustment Assistance
In accordance with Section 250(a), Subchapter D, Chapter 2, Title
II, of the Trade Act of 1974, as amended (19 U.S.C. 2273), the
Department of Labor issued a Certification of Eligibility to Apply for
NAFTA Transitional Adjustment Assistance on August 9, 1996, applicable
to all workers of Lucent Technologies, Incorporated located in Lee's
Summit, Missouri. The notice was published in the Federal Register on
March 12, 1996 (61 FR 11474).
At the request of petitioners, the Department reviewed the
certification for workers of the subject firm. The petitioners, are
employees of Berg Electronics, Inc., producing paddle board connectors
and cable assemblies at Lee's Summit. The workers at the subject plant
are not separately identifiable by product line. Review of the
certification shows that the name of the parent company, Berg
Electronics, Inc., was inadvertently excluded from the certification.
Based on this information, the Department is amending the worker
certification to include workers of Berg Electronics, Inc., Lee's
Summit, Missouri.
The intent of the Department's certification is to include all
workers of the subject firm who were adversely affected by the shift in
production to Mexico.
The amended notice applicable to NAFTA-01092 is hereby issued as
follows:
All workers of Lucent Technologies, Incorporated and Berg
Electronics, Inc., Lee's Summit, Missouri, who became totally or
partially separated from employment on or after June 19, 1995
through August 9, 1998, are eligible to apply for NAFTA-TAA under
Section 250 of the Trade Act of 1974.
Signed in Washington, DC, this 8th day of October 1997.
Grant D. Beale,
Acting Director, Office of Trade Adjustment Assistance.
