Meeting of the President's Committee of Advisors On Science and 
Technology

ACTION: Notice of meeting.

SUMMARY: This notice sets forth the schedule and summary agenda for a 
meeting of the President's Committee of Advisors on Science and 
Technology (PCAST), and describes the functions of the Committee. 
Notice of this meeting is required under the Federal Advisory Committee 
Act.
    Dates and Place: September 29, 1997. The White House Conference 
Center, Truman Room, Third Floor, 726 Jackson Place, N.W., Washington, 
D.C. 20500.
    Type of Meeting: Open.
    Proposed Schedule and Agenda: The PCAST will meet in an open 
session at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 1997. The meeting will 
focus on the full report by the Energy Panel, updates from the 
Biodiversity and Education Panels, Industry Partnerships Update, 
International Science and Technology Cooperation/Technology 
Commercialization, U.S./Japan Science and Technology Relationship, 
National Alliance of Business, and the NSF-Department of Energy Working 
Group Report on Math and Science Education. This session will end at 
approximately 5:00 p.m.
    Public Comments: There will be a time allocated for the public to 
speak on any of the above agenda items. We request that you send to us 
the topic that you would like to discuss at the PCAST meeting, or you 
can send your comments in writing five (5) days in advance of the

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: The President's Committee of Advisors on 
Science and Technology was established on November 23, 1993, by 
Executive Order 12882, as amended, and continued through September 30, 
1997, by Executive Order 12974. The purpose of PCAST is to advise the 
President on matters of national importance that have significant 
science and technology content, and to assist the President's National 
Science and Technology Council in securing private sector participation 
in its activities. The Committee members are distinguished individuals 
appointed by the President from non-Federal sectors. The PCAST is co-
chaired by John H. Gibbons, Assistant to the President for Science and 
Technology, and by John Young, former President and CEO of Hewlett-
Packard Company.
