Northern Border Pipeline Company; Notice of Compliance Filing

September 10, 1997.
    Take notice that on September 2, 1997, Northern Border Pipeline 
Company (Northern Border), tendered for filing to become part of its 
FERC Gas Tariff, First Revised Volume No. 1, the following tariff 
sheet, to become effective January 1, 1998:

    Northern Border states that the purpose of this filing is to comply 
with ordering paragraph (E) of the Commission's order issued on August 
1, 1997 in Docket Nos. CP95-194-000, et al. In the instant filing, 
Northern Border is tendering a tariff sheet implementing a straight-
line depreciation rate of 2.5 percent for purposes of financial 
accounting and the recording of a regulatory asset (liability), as 
appropriate, for the difference between the depreciation expense 
required under the straight-line method and transmission depreciation 
expense allowed for tariff billing purposes which was required by the 
order.
    Any person desiring to be heard or to make any protest with 
reference to said filing should on or before October 1, 1997, file with 
the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, 888 First Street, N.E., 
Washington, D.C. 20426, a motion to intervene or a protest in 
accordance with the requirements of the Commission's Rules of Practice 
and Procedure (18 CFR 385.214 and 385.211) and the Regulations under 
the Natural Gas Act (18 CFR 157.10). All protests with the Commission 
will be considered by it in determining the appropriate action to be 
taken but will not serve to make the protestants parties to the 
proceeding. Any person wishing to become a party to a proceeding must 
file a motion to intervene in accordance with the Commission's Rules. 
Copies of this filing are on file with the Commission and are available 
for public inspection.
