POSTPONEMENT OF PRELIMINARY DETERMINATIONS: On March 18, 1997, the Department of Commerce (the Department) initiated antidumping duty investigations of imports of steel wire rod from Canada, Germany, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela (62 FR 13854, March 24, 1997). The notice of initiation stated that unless extended, we would issue our preliminary determinations not later than August 5, 1997. On July 3, 1997, petitioners, Connecticut Steel Corp., Co-Steel Raritan, GS Industries, Inc., Keystone Steel & Wire Co., North Star Steel Texas, Inc., and Northwestern Steel & Wire Co., made a timely request for a postponement of the preliminary determinations in these investigations to 190 days after initiation, or September 24, 1997. This request was made pursuant to section 733(c)(1) of the Tariff Act of 1930, as amended (the Act), and 19 CFR 353.15(c) of the Department's regulations. Petitioners requested a postponement to ensure that the Department has adequate time to analyze the responses in these complex investigations. Therefore, for the reasons identified by the petitioners and absent any compelling reasons to deny the request, the Department is postponing the date of the preliminary determinations in these investigations until no later than September 24, 1997.
