On February 19, 1997, BIA published a notice in the Federal Register (62 FR 7470) requesting public comments on the proposed information collection. The comment period ended on April 21, 1997. BIA received no comments from the public in response to the notice. Abstract The information collection is needed to establish whether an applicant is eligible to receive services under the Housing Improvement Program (HIP) and to establish the priority order in which eligible applicants may receive services under the program. II. Request for Comments We specifically request your comments on the following: 1. Whether the collection of information is necessary for the proper performance of the functions of the BIA, including whether the information will have practical utility; 2. The accuracy of the Bureau's estimate of the burden of the information collection, including the validity of the methodology and assumptions used; 3. The quality, utility and clarity of the information to be collected; and,4. How to minimize the burden of the information collection on those who are to respond, including the use of appropriate automated electronic, mechanical or other forms of information technology. III.
