ACTION: Notice of availability. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- SUMMARY: The Department of Justice invites the submission of State Plans for the implementation of the Police Corps. The Police Corps provides scholarships and financial assistance for educational expenses to qualified individuals in participating States in return for a commitment to devote four years of service as a member of a State or local police force. All States of the United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands are eligible to submit a State Plan. DATES: Invitations to submit a State Plan and background materials will be mailed to the chief executives of eligible States and other jurisdictions during the week of November 18, 1996. State Plans for the FY 1997 Police Corps should be submitted by January 31, 1997.
