ACTION: Emergency closure of public lands and access roads in Josephine County, Oregon. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- SUMMARY: Notice is hereby given that certain public lands in Josephine County, Oregon are hereby temporarily closed to all public use, including vehicle operation and sightseeing, from August 12, 1996, until notice is rescinded. The closure is made under the authority of 43 CFR 9268.3(d)(1)(l) and 8364.1(a). The public lands affected by this emergency closure are specifically identified as follows: BLM roads 40-7-1, 40-7-1.1, 40-7-4, 40-7-11.2, 40-7-13, and 40- 7-13.3. All BLM lands in T. 40 S., R. 7 W., Sections 1, 11, 12, 13, and 14, Willamette Meridian, Josephine County, Oregon. The following persons, operating within the scope of their official duties, are exempt from the provisions of this closure order: Bureau employees; state, local and federal law enforcement and fire protection personnel; and the holders of BLM permits and/or contracts. Access by additional parties may be allowed, but must be approved by the Authorized Officer or his representative. Any person who fails to comply with the provisions of this closure order may be subject to the penalties provided in 43 CFR 8360.0-7, which include a fine not to exceed $1,000.00 and/or imprisonment not to exceed 12 months, as well as the penalties provided under Oregon State law. The public land temporarily closed to unauthorized public use under this order will be posted with signs at points of public access. The purposes of this emergency temporary closure is to protect persons from potential harm and protect valuable public property from authorized use.
