    The Department of Treasury has submitted the following public 
information collection requirement(s) to OMB for review and clearance

    Special Request: In order to conduct the survey described below in 
the August/September 1996 time frame, the Department of Treasury is 
requesting that the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) review and

    Project Number: SOI-18.
    Type of Review: Revision.
    Title: Automated Customer Survey Payoff Application.
    Description: The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has developed the 
automated Payoff Telephone Application. It provides callers with the 
payoff amounts for overdue taxes, including interest and penalties, for 
seven days from the date of the call. This application offers taxpayer 
assistance interactively, without assistor involvement. The purpose of 
the survey is to assess the level of ease and satisfaction with using 
the Payoff application.
    Respondents: Individuals or households.
    Estimated Number of Respondents: 840.
    Estimated Burden Hours Per Respondent: 2 minutes.
    Frequency of Response: Other.
    Estimated Total Reporting Burden: 28 hours.
