Notice of Conference on Shaping the Future: Strategies for 
Revitalizing Undergraduate Education

    The National Science Foundation (NSF) will hold a three day 
Conference on Shaping the Future: Strategies for Revitalizing 
Undergraduate Education. The conference will take place at the Sheraton 
Washington Hotel, 2660 Woodley Road at Connecticut Avenue, NW., 
Washington, DC 20008. Sessions will be held from 5:30-10 p.m. on July 
11, 1996 and from 7:30 a.m.-10:30 p.m. July 12, 1996 and 7:30 a.m.-3:00 
p.m. on July 13, 1996.
    The goal of the conference is to provide a forum for gathering the 
views and input of various constituencies and stakeholders in the 
undergraduate education community. Of particular interest will be the 
discussion of strategies for comprehensive reform of undergraduate 
education, and the enhanced application of science, mathematics, 
engineering, and technology curricula to the benefit of all students, 
regardless of their chosen major or career path.
    The conference will not operate as an advisory committee. It will 
be open to the public with advance registration. Participants will 
include approximately 500 leaders in engineering, mathematics and 
science education.
