PRESIDENT'S COUNCIL ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

 

The Sixth Meeting of the President's Council on Sustainable 
Development (PCSD) in Washington, DC

    Summary: The President's Council on Sustainable Development, a 
partnership of industry, labor, government, environmental and civil 
rights organizations, will convene its sixth meeting in Washington, DC. 
Council members will further discuss PCSD's role in developing 
recommendations to the President toward the integration of 
environmental and economic policy and, ultimately, establishing a long-
term path toward a sustainable United States by the year 2040.
    The Council will address the problem statement, in terms of 
achieving a sustainable future--identifying what types of practices the 
United States has employed that have take us down a path of 
unsustainability.
    Council members will discuss the report derived from the nearly 
1,000 public responses to the draft vision statement and 15 defining 
principles of sustainable development. The PCSD received public comment 
to the draft vision statement and principles from nearly every state in 
the nation and a dozen countries around the world.
