ACTION: Notice of receipt of application for a scientific research permit (P567). ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Notice is hereby given that Dr. Peter Lutz of Florida Atlantic University has applied in due form to take listed species as authorized by the Endangered Species Act of 1973 (ESA) (16 U.S.C. 1531-1543) and the NMFS regulations governing listed fish and wildlife permits (50 CFR parts 217-227). The applicant requests authorization to conduct a detailed study on the daily movements and habitat usage of green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas) and to relate these activities to local topography and flow patterns. The purpose of the comparisons is to provide an understanding of the spatial distribution of the sea turtles and to allow researchers to forecast the impact of oil spills on the turtles, in order to take timely remedial action. The applicant requests this authorization for a duration of two years. Written data or views, or requests for a public hearing on this application should be submitted to the Director, Office of Protected Resources, National Marine Fisheries Service, 1335 East-West Hwy., Silver Spring, MD 20910-3226, within 30 days of the publication of this notice. Those individuals requesting a hearing should set forth the specific reasons why a hearing on this particular application would be appropriate. The holding of such hearing is at the discretion of the Assistant Administrator for Fisheries.
