to homeowners' costs for the CPI-U for years prior to 1983, the first year for which the official index incorporates such a measure. CPI-U-X1 is rebased to the December 1982 value of the CPI-U (1982-84=100) and is identical with CPI-U data from December 1982 forward. Data prior to 1967 estimated by moving the series at the same rate as the CPI-U for each year. \2\ CPI research series using current methods (CPI-U-RS) introduced in June 1999. Data for 2006 are preliminary. All data are subject to revision annually. \3\ Chained consumer price index introduced in August 2002. Data for 2005 and 2006 are subject to revision.
