Today I send my best wishes to all those gathered at Churchill Downs for the 152d Kentucky Derby, our Nation's oldest continuously running sporting event and an iconic symbol of American strength, excellence, and grandeur.
As we commemorate 250 glorious years of American independence this year, the Kentucky Derby stands as an enduring testament to tradition, culture, and the triumph of the American spirit. Just as the thoroughbreds race down the track with determination and resolve, so too has our Nation risen to meet every challenge, defied the odds, and shattered boundaries to reach greatness.
As "the most exciting 2 minutes in sports" begins, I wish all Americans watching a thrilling and unforgettable "run for the roses." May this storied competition continue to inspire pride in our shared heritage, and may the best horse win.
