                                 PRAYER

The Chaplain, the Reverend Margaret Grun Kibben, offered the
following prayer:
God, our creator, we pray by the power of Your Holy Spirit that in
these days of division, we would build ourselves and each other up in
faith. We ask, given what we know of You--Your steadfast love, Your
supreme justice, Your unconditional mercy--that You would continue to
surround us and inspire us to regard one another with the kindness and
forbearance You have shown us.
May we be merciful to those who hesitate to believe in You. May we be
willing to draw others away from the danger of their own willfulness.
May we show mercy to those caught up in sin, even as we remain mindful
of Your judgment should we veer from Your perfect will.
Loving God, may we keep ourselves in the confines of Your love this
day and until the day we are united with You in eternity.
In Your sovereign name we pray.
  Amen.
