                                 PRAYER

  The Chaplain, Dr. Barry C. Black, offered the following prayer:
  Let us pray.
  Eternal Lord God, who rules the raging of the sea, give our Senators 
today a heightened sense of the special role You have called them to 
play in the unfolding story of American and world history. Help them to 
recognize the decisions they make may shape the lives of generations 
yet to come. May they approach this responsibility with humility, 
integrity, and courage. Give them a deeper sense of stewardship. Teach 
them to use each day wisely and to make every opportunity count for the 
good of humanity. May they remember those who are struggling, those who 
feel forgotten, those who are vulnerable, and those whose voices are 
not always heard.
  Lord, provide our legislators with compassion to listen, wisdom to 
deliberate, and strength to act with justice.
  We pray in your righteous Name. Amen.
