RECOGNIZING LEHIGH VALLEY FIREFIGHTERS
(Mr. MACKENZIE asked and was given permission to address the House
for 1 minute and to revise and extend his remarks.)
Mr. MACKENZIE. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to thank the members of the
Allentown Fire Department, as well as the professional and volunteer
firefighters from throughout the Lehigh Valley, who responded to last
night's devastating fire in Allentown.
Under extreme circumstances, the firefighters and first responders on
the scene of the Front Street fire successfully extinguished the
flames, saved many neighboring properties, and, most importantly, kept
every local resident safe. We also understand that one firefighter was
injured during the blaze, and we wish him a speedy recovery.
Last week, I had the opportunity to participate in a ride-along with
the firefighters from AFD Engine Company 6, based just a few blocks
away from the site of the fire. Throughout the process, I got to see
their professionalism and commitment up close. We are so grateful and
fortunate to have these first responders working every day and looking
after our community.
On behalf of the people of the Lehigh Valley and the Poconos, I thank
them for their service.
