                      RECOGNIZING DARRYN PETERSON

(Mrs. SYKES asked and was given permission to address the House for 1
minute and to revise and extend her remarks.)
Mrs. SYKES. Mr. Speaker, today, I rise to recognize Darryn Peterson
as Ohio's 13th Congressional District's Champion of the Week.
This Tuesday, Darryn made his family and our entire district proud
when he was selected by the Utah Jazz as the second overall pick in the
NBA Draft. This is an extraordinary accomplishment that reflects years
of discipline, dedication, and excellence on and off the court.
Born in Canton, Darryn began his high school career at the Cuyahoga
Valley Christian Academy in Cuyahoga Falls. He eventually rose to
become the number one ranked player in the entire country.
He went on to play at the University of Kansas where he averaged more
than 20 points per game in his lone season.
As we know, Akron is the birthplace of champions because we have the
distinction of being the birthplace of both Steph Curry and LeBron
James, who was the first overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft. Darryn has
also helped make our district the birthplace of champions.
Darryn now begins his own journey at the highest level. While the
path ahead is challenging, he carries the pride of our entire
community. We are incredibly proud of Darryn, and we look forward to
watching what he accomplishes in the NBA.
