                         Tuesday, June 23, 2026

Mr. LaHOOD. Mr. Speaker, today, I rise to honor and remember Reverend
John L. Gibson, Sr. of Peoria, Illinois, a beloved pastor, gifted
psalmist, community leader, and devoted servant. Reverend Gibson passed
away peacefully at his home on May 27, 2026, at the age of 86, leaving
behind a lasting legacy of faith, ministry, and service.
Born on July 21, 1939, in Leland, Mississippi, Reverend Gibson
answered the call to ministry and went on to faithfully serve Rising
Sun Baptist Church, later Rising Sun Christian Church, for 48 years.
Under his leadership, the church grew spiritually and physically,
including the construction of its 850-seat building on West Charter Oak
Road in Peoria, Illinois.
Reverend Gibson was known as a powerful preacher and gifted psalmist
whose voice uplifted countless people. Beyond the pulpit, he was a
mentor, counselor, and pillar of the community who dedicated his life
to strengthening others through faith, compassion, and service.
Above all, Reverend Gibson was a devoted husband, father,
grandfather, and spiritual leader. He leaves behind his loving wife,
Gigi M. Hamilton-Gibson, along with many family members, church
members, and spiritual sons and daughters. Reverend Gibson will be
deeply missed and remembered for his ministry, music, and enduring love
for his community.
