OUR GOVERNMENT IS SPYING ON US
(Ms. TLAIB asked and was given permission to address the House for 1
minute.)
Ms. TLAIB. Mr. Speaker, our government is spying on us. That is
right. The Foreign Intelligence Accountability Act, called FISA section
702, is a dangerous mass surveillance tool that is already being used
by our Federal Government to conduct thousands of warrantless searches
on the private communications of U.S. citizens without any due process,
probable cause, or review from a judge.
It is a clear and open violation of our Fourth Amendment and
Americans' right to privacy. It makes us all less safe.
This unconstitutional tool has been used to spy on Black Lives Matter
protesters, Members of Congress, journalists, and more.
No President--not any of them--should have the power to spy on our
private communication or information, especially not the current
occupant of the White House.
My colleagues want to give the Trump administration the power to keep
violating our rights. It is dangerous, and it must stop.
Mr. Speaker, I will always defend our rights from illegal mass
surveillance. I will be voting ``no'' on the FISA reauthorization.
