            TRIBUTE TO LIEUTENANT COMMANDER CHRISTOPHER HOOD

 Mr. SCHMITT. Mr. President, I rise today to recognize 
Lieutenant Commander Hood, a proud native of Dexter, MO, whose 
distinguished service in the U.S. Navy embodies the very best of our 
State and our country.
  Moved by the tragic events of September 11, Lieutenant Commander Hood 
answered the call to serve by enlisting as a nuclear machinist's mate. 
His dedication and talent quickly set him apart, earning him a 
commission and assignments aboard the USS Maryland. He went on to serve 
with distinction in several critical roles, including auxiliaries 
division officer aboard the USS Ronald Reagan, anti-submarine warfare 
officer aboard the USS Hue City, and chief engineer aboard the USS 
Rafael Peralta.
  Now on his fourth tour, Lieutenant Commander Hood commands a crew of 
80 American sailors aboard the Mine Countermeasure Ship USS Pioneer. 
His leadership on the frontlines of the Indo-Pacific has been vital in 
preserving a free and open region in the face of growing threats from 
the Chinese Communist Party. Through every mission, his steady hand and 
unwavering resolve have made a difference.
  For his outstanding service, Lieutenant Commander Hood has earned 
numerous commendations, including the Navy and Marine Corps 
Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. 
These accolades reflect not just his professional excellence, but a 
steadfast commitment to duty and country. Lieutenant Commander Hood's 
career is a testament to the strength, character, and patriotism that 
define the American people. I am proud to honor him today for his 
exemplary service and sacrifice. Lieutenant Commander Hood is truly a 
Champion of Missouri and a credit to the uniform he wears and the 
nation he defends.
