            HONORING 13TH ANNIVERSARY OF SANDY HOOK SHOOTING

  (Mrs. HAYES asked and was given permission to address the House for 1 
minute and to revise and extend her remarks.)
  Mrs. HAYES. Mr. Speaker, I rise today as this Sunday marks the 13th 
anniversary of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, 
Connecticut. On December 14, 2012, a senseless act of gun violence 
claimed the lives of 20 innocent children and 6 selfless educators.
  This day continues to be one of grave reflection and sadness for the 
people of Connecticut. There are no words to describe the heartbreak I 
felt on that day. After all these years, the hurt is still raw, and I 
still feel that same heaviness.
  Communities across the State and the Nation remember the stories of 
those children in that kindergarten class. We honor their memories and 
reaffirm a shared commitment to end the epidemic of gun violence.
  Mr. Speaker, today we remember, reflect, and honor the lives of those 
we lost and hold the Newtown and Sandy Hook community up in prayer.
