the nominations of Michael Payne, of Virginia, to be Director of Cost 
Assessment and Program Evaluation, Alexander Velez-Green, of Virginia, 
to be a Deputy Under Secretary, and Timothy Dill, of Ohio, who was 
introduced by Senator Cruz, and Maurice Todd, of Florida, both to be an 
Assistant Secretary, all of the Department of Defense, after the 
nominees testified and answered questions in their own behalf.
NOMINATIONS
Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation: Committee concluded 
a hearing to examine the nominations of John DeLeeuw, of Texas, Richard 
Kloster, of West Virginia, and Michelle A. Schultz, of Pennsylvania, 
each to be a Member of the Surface Transportation Board, after the

Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs: Permanent 
Subcommittee on Investigations concluded a hearing to examine assessing 
Obamacare, including S. 976, to amend the Patient Protection and 
Affordable Care Act to reduce fraudulent enrollments in qualified 
health plans, after receiving testimony from Joel C. White, Council for 
Affordable Health Coverage, Washington, D.C.; Tarren Bragdon, 
Foundation for Government Accountability, Naples, Florida; Brian Blase, 
Paragon Health Institute, Ponte Verde Beach, Florida; and Shana 
Verstegen, MomsRising, Madison, Wisconsin.

HIGHER EDUCATION FINANCIAL TRANSPARENCY
Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions: Committee 
concluded a hearing to examine reforming financial transparency in 
higher education, after receiving testimony from Justin Draeger, Strada 
Education Foundation, Preston Cooper, American Enterprise Institute, 
and Mark Huelsman, The Hope Center for Student Basic Needs, all of 
Washington, D.C.; Brenda Hicks, Southwestern College, Winfield, Kansas; 
and Onjila Odeneal, Detroit Promise, Detroit, Michigan.
BUSINESS MEETING
Committee on the Judiciary: Committee ordered favorably reported the 
following business items:
  S. 1884, to clarify the Holocaust Expropriated Art Recovery Act of 
2016, to appropriately limit the application of defenses based on the 
passage of time and other non-merits defenses to claims under that Act; 
and
  The nomination of Thomas Ferguson III, to be United States Attorney 
for the Western District of North Carolina.
