               HONORING QUEEN MOTHER SIRIKIT OF THAILAND

  Mr. WILSON of South Carolina. Mr. Speaker, as Chairman of the U.S.-
Thai Alliance Caucus, I want to extend my deepest condolences to both 
the Royal Family and the people of the Kingdom of Thailand following 
the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother.
  Born in Bangkok on August 12, 1932--a day now celebrated as Mother's 
Day--she married the future King Bhumibol Adulyadej, crowned Rama IX, 
in 1950.
  Her Majesty led a life dedicated to public service and was a champion 
of furthering rural development in Thailand. As a steadfast companion 
of the King for more than four decades, she traveled with him 
throughout the country touring rural villages and advocating for 
projects to help the poor.
  Queen Sirikit was also an advocate for the preservation of 
traditional silk-weaving and is credited with helping to revitalize 
Thailand's silk industry.
  During my visits to Thailand, I have seen firsthand the warmth of the 
people and their love for the King and Queen, offering only the highest 
of praises. The Thai people's admiration of the monarchs is a testament 
of their patriotism and to national unity in Thailand. I am grateful to 
have been able to have seen these sentiments firsthand, in addition to 
the numerous other aspects of their rich culture. Thailand is a valued 
ally of America.
  Once again, I offer my deepest condolences to Queen Sirikit's family 
and friends, and to the people of the Kingdom of Thailand.
